Echolocation by Robert Jarvis

Outdoor Culture secured funding from the PRS Foundation to produce a live performance of Echo2, the second site-specific music composition in the Echolocation series by Robert Jarvis.

Echo2 was performed on the evenings of 8 and 9 May 2009 at the Chimney Meadows nature reserve near Bampton in Oxfordshire.  The event was a partnership with the reserve's owners, BBOWT - the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust - Outdoor Culture and the fantastic Oxford Contemporary Music.

There's a posting about the event to be found on my blog.

Robert's music frequently draws upon the natural world: in Echolocation he uses a combination of bat detectors, microphones and scientific data to extract hidden sonic phenomena from a given site, which he then manipulates electronically in real time, producing beautiful and ethereal music in a live collaboration with local wildlife. On 8 and 9 May, Echo2 formed the centrepiece of a number of artistic encounters with the nocturnal inhabitants of the nature reserve.

Outdoor Culture and Robert Jarvis also presented a live performance of Echo3 at the Swaledale Festival on 25 May 2009 in the grounds of Grinton Church, North Yorkshire.

Other Echolocation performances for 2009 and 2010 are under discussion - promoters should call me on 07920 180710.
